I think you would agree that valuable content on your website or that was authored by you and hosted on other sites is critical to your success to drive traffic and ultimately make sales. At the end of the day, it separates a good blog from a great blog!

So creating great content is job one for your blog.  Your challenge is generating and delivering content that has value to visitors to your site.

Creating great content takes work!

So, you know you have to have your content in places all over the net.  And why do you do that?  For one, as Gary Vaynerchuk says in his book, “Crush It!”, we all have our own DNA for how we want to understand things.  As such, we want people to have access to our content in the way that resonates with them (however that is).

So, once you published a post, whether it is an article, video or podcast, what can you do to repurpose it into many other pieces of content?  So, what you will need to do is to plan your work out and then repurpose your content with some of the strategies that are outlined below.

Repurposing your content is key to getting increased exposure and traffic!

So, what is repurposing?  Well, for one, it isn’t posting the same content in a lot of places.  That is not going to work…trust me.  Repurposing is finding new and different ways to present your voice that resonates with people the way they prefer to ingest it.

Ways to repurpose your content!

Let’s start with some of the easier ways to repurpose your content and work up from there!

1.      Create a slide show! Take one of the articles that you have created and turn it into a PowerPoint slide show.  Use lots of bullets to get your main points across.  Post it on SlideShare.net

2.    Make your slide show into a video!  Take that exact slide show and use either camtasia, Snag-it, or Windows media encoder to create a video. You can actually read your article and just advance the slides.  Post those on numerous video sites such as YouTube or Vimeo to name but a few.

3.    Turn your posts into PDF’s!  From there, repurpose them by posting them on Docstoc or Scribd.

4.    Publish your how to posts on eHow! Submit your article to sites like eHow or Yahoo Contributors

5.    Create a podcast! Make a digital recording of your post using software such as Audacity or AudioAcrobat.  Then submit the file to podcast directories such as Podcast Alley, All Podcast or Gigadial

6.    Social sharing! Link your blog to your FanPage (Networked Blogs) and to your Twitter account. Make sure your titles are strong, but this is one tool that you get a lot of bang for your buck with!

7,    Repurpose press releases! Press releases are a quick and effective way to get a lot of back links.  But take that same press release and rewrite it as a blog post or article

8.    Revise old blog posts, updating titles, recent news references, examples and links to updated external resources. This can be super beneficial.  You probably have some great posts, but that was a long time and several educations ago.  So by making better titles and pumping up the post with good subheaders, it can not only live, but thrive.  Just make sure you make it up to date.

9.    Take your tips/soltuions/lists and make them into an e-book!  Every good marketer knows that titles that have a list such as “The Top 7 Ways to Boost Traffic”, “10 Things That Make Your Blog Rock” etc have a 40% higher rate of getting read.  In other words, we love lists!  The great marketers take those lists and then create an article for each item on the list.  So “7 Ways” actually becomes 8 articles.  Now put all of those articles together and you have an e-book to give away or even sell!

10. Create a Squidoo lens – Squidoo is a great publishing platform to share information on your area of expertise, build credibility, gain a following, get traffic and more!

11.  Alltop RSS Feed – I get a substantial amount of traffic as a result of this site. I am sure there are other article aggregators like Alltop.  You choose a niche, list your site and everytime you post, it automatically gets listed there.

12.  Use your newsletter as a blog post!  Every article that I write for my newsletter is also posted to my blog. Some might think this is a little over the top and that search engines might penalize me for having the same article in multiple places.  I am not convinced and let me tell you why.  Google alerts indictes that my posts are indexed in a short time after I post.  And going back to the Crush It approach, I have the opportunity to resonate with different audience DNA’s with just a little bit of effort.

13. Article directoriesWhether you submit to ezinearticles, ArticleBase or a slew of other directories, you are going to drive traffic to your site.  Make sure that whatever you submit is original.  You might have to edit out some links, but that is a small price to pay for the traffic you generate.

Your takeaway from this post…

Repurposing your content by using some of the techniques above shows you to be the  thought leader in your niche as you are seen everywhere. Literally, the first customer I ever got was certainly not a result of my content. It was because the person told me everywhere they looked I was there.  By sharing your content in multiple ways, you are going to see an increase in traffic to your site and ultimately your bank account.

Your call to action!
