So we all start a new month today. Thirty-one days from now we start a new quarter. The beginning of March is a great time to pause and take a look at how your social media strategy is working for you.
First off – you do have a strategy don’t you? You do have some goals and objectives written down – don’t you? If you don’t – it’s going to be very difficult to measure whether or not you are succeeding with your social media and internet presence.
At a bare minimum you should be measuring these things:
How many friends did you have on FaceBook Feb 1? How many do you have now?
How many fans does your Fan Page have? How many did you have back on Feb 1?
How many people are you following on Twitter? How many were you following Feb 1?
How many are following you on Twitter? How much did that increase during the month?
LinkedIn? Ditto to the questions above.
MySpace? Same.
Other social networks? You need that same information.
How many blogs did you post during Feb? How many will you post in March?
How many GUEST blogs did you post in Feb? March?
Social Media is like anything else worth doing – you need a plan and a strategy – and you need to actually implement the plan. If you don’t know where you were on Feb 1 – how do you know if you are making progress?
Start today – sit down and set some goals and objectives for the month of March – put together a strategy for achieving those objectives and hitting the goals. If you need help don’t hesitate to give us a shout here at Social Media Dudes.
We would love to hear your comments, suggestions, and feedback to this blog post – fire away!

Dennis, excellent post! In order to be successful, you have to have the following:
* things that are not subjective and can actually be measured. Your before and after examples are perfect examples. You don’t want to have a feeling you are getting better. You want to know!
* You have to measure like they vote in Chicago…early and often. There is a point of doing it too often, but monthly is perfect. It allows you to make adjustments along the way.
Of course, if you don’t have a goal of knowing where you want to get to, then the above don’t mean much.
Great post!
