Social Media Dudes has discussed the importance of brand monitoring.  We are in the process of putting together a comprehensive list of tools that you can use to do that.

But in the interim, I ran across this site and thought it worth mentioning.

Have you ever wondered about what your competition is up to?  Or just as importantly, aren’t you at least a little bit curious about what others are saying about you either positively or negatively?

For the most part The Dudes get good marks in print and in person.  But nevertheless, I was curious about things that might not have been so flattering.  So I checked out socialmention.com

Social Mention is a social media search and analysis platform that aggregates user generated content from across the universe into a single stream of information.

It allows you to easily track and measure what people are saying about you, your company, a new product, or any topic across the web’s social media landscape in real-time. Social Mention monitors 100+ social media properties directly including: Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed, YouTube, Digg, Google etc.

 While Google Alerts are great, this tool to me is great for on the fly results.  If you are doing some research for some content you are creating and need to do a one time search, Social Mention is a great resource.  Just happen to hear about someone and want to know what is being said across the social networks?  Consider Social Mention.
