The proper implementation of a social media strategy in your business can be a game changer.  It is a very powerful tool that every business should have in their marketing toolbox.  However, it is not the only tool.  And if anyone tells you that social media by itself will solve all of your marketing challenges, you should start to think of Forest Gump. Because my advice would be…”Run Forest Run!” 

To be clear, we are deep advocates of social media and use it daily to develop new business and nurture existing business.  I would think most people would view us of living in the social media trenches. 

But you need to understand that in most cases, social media should not be your only marketing strategy!  It is probably the most cost effective, but if you only use social media, you may be disappointed!

If you currently use social media in your marketing, think back to your last sale.  Can you tie it back to your last tweet on Twitter?  How about that blog post?  Maybe something you put on your Facebook FanPage closed the deal for you?

When you come down to it, you will probably admit that it wasn’t entirely a result of any of your social media efforts. You see, social media as your only strategy is not enough. You probably had some sales effort in there to help close the deal! 

Social Media  supplements or expands your sales efforts!  In most cases, we wouldn’t recommend making social media your only marketing tactic. Notice the words “supplement” and “expand”.  They go with your other sales/marketing strategies!. 

How can social media augment your other marketing efforts?

  • Tweet about your landing page to drive traffic to it.  Supplement your PayPerClick campaign.
  • Use Social Media sites to promote an event that you are putting on to increase product/brand awareness.
  • Let people know of your expertise by posting blogs

These are just a few examples.  Social media by itself can be effective, but when used in conjunction with other strategies is like marketing on steroids!  Use it to your advantage!

Believe it or not, not doing social media right can actually harm your business.

  • I agree with you! Social Media is not only the marketing channel but it has the power to increase your business space into viral! Also one should remember what applies to traditional marketing will also applies to a social media campaign because every where in marketing relationships matter!
