I’m often amazed at how many professional sales representatives really don’t understand who their competition is. The competition is closer than you might realize.
If you ask a car salesman he may point down the road or across the street to another dealership. If you ask a Realtor she might do the same – pointing the finger at another broker or office.
The fact of the matter is — their competitor is probably sitting in the cubicle right next to them! It’s their own sales staff that is their primary competition. I know – I know – the dealership and the real estate company – they don’t want to hear this. Afterall – we’re a “team”. Yea. Right. If you are a professional sales person – YOU are responsible for YOUR income. The guy down the hall could care less.
What are you doing to get the edge on your real competition? Have you started a blog? Do you use social media to generate new business? Surely you have your own website – different from the company site? What about a marketing campaign with AdZzoo?
My suggestion is that if you are in sales – you are a small business owner. Act like one.
