You have heard both Dennis and I talk about people walking their talk.  Well, back in October, I was fortunate enough to attend BlogWorld Expo in LasVegas.  I was even more fortunate to be in the front row when Richard Jalichandra delivered the keynote speech about where blogging is at currently.

That speech has made some dramatic changes in the way we have approached Social Media Dudes and the things that we advocate to our clients as well.  And if you are reading this, chances are you are blogging in regards to your business or because you want to be seen as an authority in your niche.  Here are some things that we have changed:

It is a matter of Pimp Your Blog!

Let’s be real.  Very few blogs garner attention out of nowhere.  So, if you have learned anything about the internet, self promotion goes hand in hand with success.  As such almost three quarters of those termed professional bloggers use Twitter to let people know that their blog even exists and to keep people abreast of their latest posts.  Your takeaway?  Build your Twitter following!

If you want to be influential…be passionate!

Your end result may not have come about because you wanted to make a business out of what you were doing.  It was most likely originally founded out of a passion for something you liked, enjoyed or were really good at.  Your drive to share turned it into a business and your views started to influence others.  Your takeaway?  Being authentic and wanting to “Crush It” (see Gary Vaynerchuk) is more likely to lead to your success than any gimmick.  That being said, no one said you couldn’t have fun doing whatever it is you do!

Successful bloggers post SEVEN TIMES MORE than the average blogger!

This is an area that I feel most of our clients don’t get.  Prior to this event, I would “try” to get in 1 blog post a week.  Until recently, we were primarily posting something everyday Monday through Friday.

Then Dennis challenged me on why we were (actually I was) reluctant to post on the weekends.  And you know what?  He was right!  There are times you see more than 1 post a day on our site.  And I am sure in the near future, that will actually be a norm.  Are we trying to inundate you?  No. But we are trying to deliver value and original content that you can use. Your takeaway?  The rules of success have changed!  You need to adapt!

You don’t have to be a professional writer to blog successfully!

Over half the people polled have never worked in traditional media of any kind.  Just speak at the level of your audience and bring the passion along with great content and you have the recipe for success! @ConnieGreen (follow her on Twitter for great insights) told me something that sticks with me to this day.  Do what you do long enough in your own voice and sooner or later, it will begin to resonate with people who are attracted to your point of view.  Your takeaway?  Don’t be afraid of what others might think.  If you can’t write, do a video blog!

While there are other great insights that the State of the Blogosphere brought forth, just focus on putting the above into action!

At the end of the day, I am also advocating know your strengths and weaknesses.  And in that regard, we are no different than you.  Dennis and I have different skill sets.  There are some things he is amazing at and at best, I would consider myself so-so.  There are other areas where the opposite is true.  And when we both either are not good at them or just plain don’t want to do them (because we both know they need done), we outsource it.

Your takeaway from this post?

Consider the Social Media Dudes for outsourcing of your blogging, website creation/management and social media marketing campaigns.
