We know that one of the major stumbling blocks when you are online is having people find you. And unless you have a pocketful of cash that you want to spend on Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising, then you need to generate some organically.
I also know that many people feel having to manually post everywhere is a pain. Let’s work on both of those challenges!
Blog + Facebook account = Networked Blog Application!
Do you have a blog? Do you also have a Facebook account? (And why don’t you have one?? If you don’t have one, stop reading, and get one. When you are done, return here!) Then you will love the Networked Blogs application at Facebook!
Essentially it is another way to promote you blog, in a friendly way to your friends on Facebook and to the whole Facebook community, as well. It is another way that is painless for you to promote your blog and get some traffic coming to you. Won’t be loads of traffic. But internet traffic to your site is similar to a saying I have about money…
Internet Traffic (or money) is not like fish…you don’t throw back the small ones!
Setting up a networked blog is quick and easy!
- First, you have to add the application by visiting the Networked Blogs page at Facebook. To do so, you will either see it under “Applications” or do a search for Networked Blogs.
- Submit your blog. Part of that process is “claiming your blog” Essentially, it is copying and pasting into your blog an entry just so they can be sure the blog you are submitting is yours. It is very easy and only takes a minute or two. What I did was simply make a blog post from it. As soon as it was verified, I deleted the post. As an alternative, you could ask 10 friends to help you claim your blog, but this could take awhile, so the HTML code feature is best in my opinion..
- Fan it up by inviting your friends to join your Blog Network. Just explain to them that until you get 20 people following your blog, it is going to be more difficult for others to find you. It has been my experience that if I ask, most of my friends will help me out as they know I would do the same for them. You might consider putting the Networked Blog widget on your site. That makes it very easy for anyone (even non FB friends) to follow your blog..
Relax, and let your blog post auto-post to your profile! Here is the best part – once you have 11 Readers, your blog posts will automatically post to your Facebook profile! I love that! In the past, I would manually post my blog posts to my Facebook, so having it automatically post just makes my life that much easier.- Once I got to 20, I wouldn’t put too much effort into getting more followers. I am not saying it is a bad thing, but you accomplished a couple of objectives with this exercise. One…you do get some exposure and traffic from being listed. And that is always a good thing. More importantly, you have automated your blog posts to Facebook every time you post. And that is a great thing and a time saver. For that point alone, I think it is worth the exercise.
- Let me help you! Put a comment below and let me know about your networked blog. I will follow it and promote it to others. Let’s help each other out now folks!
